Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetes is a disease that inhibits with the body’s ability to use and store sugar, which may lead to several health problems. Excess sugar present in the blood may cause damage in the entire body including eyes. Meanwhile, the circulatory system of the retina also gets attacked by diabetes.

Diabetic Retinopathy is an eye complication that occurs in person due to Diabetes and which causes continuous harm to the retina. Moreover, it is the outcome of damage to the tiny blood vessels that feed the retina. These tiny blood vessels drip blood as well as other fluids that results in swelling of retinal tissue and clouding of vision. Both eyes get affected by this disease. The longer an individual has Diabetes; he/she has more chance of developing DiabeticRetinopathy. Diabetic Retinopathy may also lead to blindness, if it is left untreated.

RETINA DIAGNOSTIX @ The Eye Infirmiry

FundusFluoresceinAngiography

The fundus camera is equipped with technology for performing Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA), a specialized retinal test. In this test, dye injected through the hand veins enters the blood vessels of the retina and can be visualized. Areas of blood leakage, blockage, and abnormal blood vessels can thus be detected.

This test is extremely helpful in Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), retinal vein blockages (BRVO and CRVO), vasculitis, and uveitis

OCT(Optical-Coherence-Tomography)–-Retinalscan

This highly sophisticated equipment, heidelberg spectralis OCT, allows us to see microscopic details of the retina. All 10 layers of the retina can be clearly differentiated. Different diseases arising from different layers can be accurately pinpointed. This instrument can measure in micrometres the retinal thickness, easily picking up any swelling of the retina.

This test is indispensible in patients with Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR), retinal vein blockages (BRVO and CRVO), uveitis, cystoid macular oedema (CME), etc.

(BRVO and CRVO), uveitis, cystoid macular oedema (CME), etc.

Ultrasound B-scan

The ultrasound machine by OTITM can help to diagnose structural problems of the vitreous, retina, choroid, and optic nerve. A high-quality image is generated whereby the different eye structures can be differentiated.

This test is very helpful in patients who have advanced Cataract, Corneal diseases, Vitreous Haemorrhage (bleeding inside the eye, commonly due to Diabetic Retinopathy), and Eye Tumours.

HEIDELBERG OCT ANGIOGRAPHY

This Module offers high resolution OCT angiography (OCTA) images with a lateral resolution of 5.7 microns per pixel for visualization of capillaries. An axial resolution of 3.9 microns per pixel enables precise multilayer segmentation and visualization of all four
vascular plexuses of the retina.

The SPECTRALIS platform offers the possibility to combine non-invasive OCTA and dye-based, gold-standard FA and ICGA. This hybrid angiography approach allows for follow-ups on existing SPECTRALIS FAs or ICGAs with a direct, pixel to pixel correlation.

The optional Scan Planning Tool automates OCTA scan placement on a region of interest identified on FA/ICGA or any other previously-acquired scanning laser fundus image.

RETINA TREATMENT @ THE EYE INFIRMIRY

At The Eye Infirmiry we can boast about offering the most advanced treatment for all retinal diseases.

LASER

Patented MicroPulse technology for Fovea-friendlyTM MicroPulse Laser Therapy by IRIDEX-IQ577,for-retinalDisorders.

Focused light energy is delivered to the retina in an extremely controlled manner, with reproducible clinical results. The entire procedure is done in the OPD and may take between 5 and 15 minutes. It is painless, and there are no restrictions on one’s activities after the procedure.

LASER energy is used to target microscopic areas of the retina in diseases like Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), retinal vein blockages (BRVO and CRVO), central serous retinopathy (CSR), and many others.

Intravitreal-Injections

Certain drugs can only reach the retina if they are injected directly into the eye, rather than being given as eye drops or tablets. This also minimizes the risk of any side-effects in other parts of the body. Vision can improve dramatically with their use. Commonly used drugs are AccentrixTM (formerly LucentisTM), AvastinTM, OzurdexTM and EyleaTM, . At TheEye Infirmiry , we administer these injections in the Minor operating theatre, maintaining the strictest for retinal hygienic conditions.

These drugs mainly act by reducing retinal leakage and swelling in diseases like Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Retinopathy, retinal vein blockages (BRVO and CRVO),and-uveitis.

Retinal-Surgery

Retinal surgery is the last resort in many retinal diseases. Some diseases like Retinal Detachment (RD) can only be treated by surgery. Surgery can often produce dramatic Improvement in vision.
